Campguy Racing

We have been busy here at Campguy, not on our products but building the perfect pinewood derby car. James drew up the design and theme, without input. I did the major cutting and he did the sanding. We added hidden weight in the front disguised as headlights and some in the windshield section. James then did all of the painting and graphics.

It was his idea for the "Campguy" theme for the car. I let him do what ever he wanted to it. I figured it is his car and his race. I just talked him into putting the lead in the headlights for weight.

Race day was today and his car did good. The compaction was tough, but fair. Some of the cars were really out there. It is amazing to see the designs and themes of some of the cars. I could tell that so were most likely done by someone else then the kid.

James was happy with the cars performance and Campguy was happy to "sponsor" his car. Now to get back to building more birdhouses.

Dancing in the Air

As I was driving by the George Ranch, in Southern Fort Bend County, I saw this. The flock would fly as one, changing shape and directions in an instant. I know the farmers and ranchers don't like them, but the show was a good one to watch.

On the Road? Not This Year

This is the first year that CAMPGUY has not hit the road. The decision was hard to make because going to the local fairs and markets was really enjoyable. We really enjoyed the interaction with our customers and other vendors.

There will be some venues that this year will mark the first time in about 10 that we will not be showing. There is no one reason why this is so. The big reason is economics. The investment in the time and energy is not worth the return in profit. Going to a show is a gamble, between the booth fee, gas, food and misc. expenses it was a roll of the dice if we would break even, let alone make a little profit. This year I have seen an increase in the expenses prior to even pulling on the road.

It was a hard decision to make but we decided to stay at the shop. Everything we make and display on the web site is still available. The web site has been doing good with hits and orders from a cross the country. So for our faithful customers from across TEXAS, we are still here and we hope to come back and visit your town again. In the mean time browse our website at www.campguy.com and as always we are TEXAS FRIENDLY, so if you don't see an item. just drop a note and we will see we can do to get it for you.

I have been blessed to make friends with some fine folks in Montana. I recently sent them a care package of a Texas Tech Red Raider Bird House and a Wine Bottle Holder. I decided not to include what the Wine Holder was and make "The Farmer" figure it out. After all, With his wife being a Texas Tech Red Raider, I had to test him to make sure he was not an "undercover" Aggie.

Well, I am still not sure if he is an undercover Aggie, but he came up with some really good uses for the Wine Bottle Holder. I think I could hire him for our product development division. First I will have to make a product development division. I wonder if I could pay him in beer? The farmers in these parts, beer is just like cash if not more so. Stuck in the mud? Wrecker = 125 dollars, Farmer with tractor or truck = 12 pack.

I suppose I can have a Montana satellite office for Campguy, The people are friendly enough and they do have a good sense of Humor, kinda like an Aggie. I just hope "The Farmers Wife" checks for AGGIE stickers on the truck and tractors. Check behind the truck seat for maroon clothing, and checks the barn for the AGGIE gimme caps.

I already have AGGIE consultants for the AGGIE product line and as consultants I tell them they have to pay me for their advice. So far it has worked out pretty good. I got a quarter, two dimes, a nickle and three cents. Got to LUV THEM AGGIES!

Cub Scout Range Master

Campguy went to the Cub Scout cuboree today. I spent the time there as a "range master" of the bb gun range. The two in the red shirts in the above picture were the other range masters. Most of the cub scouts did good shooting, but there were a couple we spent a lot of time with trying to get them hit the target.

Some of the smaller kids could not even hold the gun. I must admit one or two times I may have sniped a target or two so when they walk up to the target there may be a hole in it. I just made sure it wasn't a bull's eye.

I figured that they were young kids and today they should have fun. We did not have the time to hold class and teach them to shoot when we were running range lines every 15 minutes or so. Towards the end it was getting down right hot out there and I was more then ready to get back to campguy and relax.

James said he had fun going around to all the different activities that there were. I know can say I have been a range master. They don't have to know it was a cub scout bb gun range.

Hurricane Ike One Year Anniversary

One year ago Hurricane Ike was knocking on the door. We watched this storm develop and it was predicted to come ashore at Matagorda County. Campguy is located just North of of this area and as the bird fly's maybe 30 miles from the shore.

If it did come ashore where it was first predicted we would of probably been wiped out or close to it. Because it took the hook, we were on the clean side of the storm and the storm lost it's power before it went ashore.

Due to my "real" job I spent the night in Downtown Houston and listened and watch as the eye of the storm passed over me. It was a rough night but I made it through. The rest of my family "hunkered down" at Campguy with the grandparents at their house. It was safer because it is a single story and there is more wind breaks then at our house.

We survived with minimal damage done. This was a close call that could have been a lot worse. We know that the "big" storm can hit at any time but you have to live somewhere and no where is completely safe. So on this one year anniversary of Hurricane Ike, we give thanks that it could have been a lot worse. God bless our neighbors who wasn't as fortunate as us and God Bless TEXAS!

Tony Stewart #14 or is it #88?

The NEW Tony Stewart #14 is finally here! This will be shipped out on Monday via US Priority Mail to a customer in Wisconsin. I wish to apologize to the customer because when it was ordered, I sent a Dale Jr. #88 by mistake. Then both of my vendors, did not have the NEW #14 plate in stock. I think they are both mad with NASCAR with all the changes of numbers. They now have a surplus of all the old plates. Usually both vendors had at least three different designs for Tony Stewart, today only one vendor Carry's this plate.

I want to keep true to our motto "Texas Friendly", I hope this birdhouse along with them keeping the Dale Jr. #88 house will keep them as customers. It just seemed like it was one thing after another with this order, with NO fault on their end. I take full responsibility for the wrong product shipped and the delay with the order, due to my vendor problems.

The busy season is coming up and I hope that my brain will function properly when it comes to orders. I will be placing a series of orders to keep the more popular plates in stock. I have a lot of the houses built and primed. I am also adding new houses and themes to our product selection.

Here at Campguy we are ready to be "Texas Friendly" and "customer friendly" to both out website customers and our customers that we will be meeting at craft fairs and shows. If there is a theme that you don't see, drop us a line ad let us know. Thank you for your support.

The Cicket Invasion

CampGuy is being invaded by the crickets, I wish it was Buddy Holly's Band, but their not. They are invading by the thousands. Luckily they are not in the house, but they are in my workshop.

The are in the yard and on the driveway. I mowed the yard today, and they were jumping everywhere trying to avoid the mowers blades.

They have not been this bad for years, I guess it is the drought that we are in. I just hate having to sweep up the shop all the time to get rid of all the dead ones. I guess it could be worse and be grass hoppers. I need to let the chickens roam up to the house and see how many they will take care of for me.

If it is cloudy and threatening to storm........YES, you still can get a sun burn! IN the morning I could see a storm that was forming and I didn't really think I would be out on the beach that long. The storm passed to our east and we came in for lunch. James then wanted to go to the pool, So I sprayed down with the 30 sun screen. That evening when this picture was taken I realized that I got a whole bunch of sun.

I am paying for my lack of attention last night and today. I suppose I will be paying for the next couple of days. We stopped off at the pharmacy and I asked where was the sunburn sprays. She asked how bad is it and I lifted up my sleeve to a "OMG!". I have one she recommended and one that said ICE and then I have the natural approach. James took some Alvera and smashed it up. He applied that to my forehead while we are testing the other two on the rest of the burn. So, if you go outdoors with out long sleeves, apply sun screen 30 at once.

Boy's Trip

Apollo 11

On this anniversary of the Apollo 11 Mission, we must take a pause and ask ourselves what is next? Mars? A Moon Base? The Space Station Hotel? Whatever is decided we must move forward in space. As a youngster I loved space and the missions of NASA. I remember looking at the moon and stars with my telescope, dreaming of going to space.

I guess I have passed that down to my Son. He enjoys space and it's mysteries. Maybe one day he will go, maybe one day, it will be a routine flight to the Moon and beyond. We need to look forward and move forward in exploring the final frontier.

How surprised I was, to sit down in a Houston shopping mall food court, and see my town on the map. I look around and all the tables are different with different parts of Texas. What are the chances that GUY was featured on the map. I very rarely venture to the mall but, I stopped there because it was late and fast. Now the big question is, what are the chances a guy from GUY would sit at that table? I guess I should have bought a lotto ticket that night.

Jimmy was in the fields today. But our Head Of Security, Officer Jill was let out of her pin for patrol duty. She didn't let the trespasser go unnoticed with out heavy barking. She almost got run over by the combine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But she turned back about 20 yards away!

I drove home from the big city and I saw all the farmers hard at work. July 4th a holiday and they were all out in the fields harvesting. As dusk turned into night, I looked over the fields and I saw them, the tractors running and all the flood lights on, Harvesting.

I looked over into the distance and fireworks were going off, both public displays and the little johnny displays. I look over into the fields and there were the tractors and the trucks HARVESTING.

I salute you, the Farmer and Rancher, The backbone of America!

The Pipe Fix

I hope everyone had a great July 4th. I spent mine with my Dad and Aunt. I was helping my Dad clean out my late uncle's work shop. My aunt then asked if I could see what was leaking in the attic, so she could call the right repair person.

I crawl up there expecting to see a clogged A/C drain or something. It was a small hole in a pipe, and it had been leaking for sometime. She had a bucket in her bedroom, where it was dripping. So, I run to Home Depot (my crack store) to get some rubber and clamps, and then I see this pipe repair kit, I have watched "Tool Time", So I purchased the kit also.

I decide that the kit would be the way to go, It will be fixed and no plumber would be needed. I do the patch job and pulled three bags of insulation out the attic, that were soaked with water. My patch job held and no more leak. The ceiling will have to be patched because the drywall is not DRY anymore.

Oh, for my Northern Neighbors, We were under a HEAT warning, with a 103 index. So I had NO idea how HOT it was in the attic.

Early Fathers Day(s)

I had my fathers day early. I took off several days and we went to a camp ground. I am not going to say "camping" because, this time, We rented a cabin. I was able to spend time with my son and father. This was a family affair with my sisters families, my parents, and mother-in- law. It really was good to get away from the city and work. The area was peaceful and the people nice, except for the invasion of Friday afternoon and evening. There is a "waterpark" in the campground where we spent the afternoons. I spent the mornings sleeping in and then watching all of these movies that I have been buying and not watching. The evening time was a nice dinner and sitting around the table. My son crawled into bed with me and I had some movies for us to watch together. I look over to ask him with one and he was fast a sleep.
I am not one for crowds and the crowd came Friday. The placed was packed Friday night. We left Saturday morning for home. I really enjoyed the Fathers Days. I am planning a "boys trip" with my son later this summer. Just me and him and the truck camper. We do this every summer, just get in and drive somewhere.
This summer it might be two trips, one by truck camper and the other by motorcycle. It is important to get away from work and reset and recharge your batteries and your life. I would love to travel up north but this summer it will be a local Texas trip(s), due to money and time.
To all of the Fathers out there I hope you have a wonderful Fathers Day.

The Easter Bunny visit's Campguy!

The EASTER BUNNY visit's CAMPGUY today. Coming on the back of a bike with all the fan fare. CAMPGUY also has new ducklings that was a big hit for kids of all ages. The rain moved through fast and there was nothing but joy and sunshine to celebrate this day!

The EASTER egg hunt was huge and all the baskets were over flowing with goodies. The kids had fun in the chicken coop, trying to catch and make friends with their feathery playmates.

Of course, the mid-day meal filled everyone up. The ham and all the sides were excellent. This year the adults were able to act like kids by using confetti eggs on them. It was a free for all with confetti hitting most of the kids. I learned later the EASTER BUNNY was not hit.

Today ,Sat.1-24-2009, was the Needville Pack 129 Pine Wood Derby. It was really awsome! Connor (from my den) won 1st over all with his car The Silver Bullet! After the races I raced agenst my dad's 2 cars, but blevle it or not my car came in 2nd from his orange 36 year old car.

Camp Guy add-ons

As you may of heard about a new Camp Guy add-on called "Camp Guy Farms". Some time in the future we'll have a theme park farm. I'm giving my dad plans for the play area. So far we have a 39'X42' pre-school age, a 54'X70' school age playgrounds and, a 25'X15' swing area. The farm will have other things. Once we have the farm off the ground we'll put in an RV park next to it so people can spend the night. That's the plan for "Camp Guy Farms. James and Greg

Here at Camp Guy we like the holidays. We're so exited when it comes around. The bid for the "Guy" and "Needville Blue Jays" birdhouses ended last Saturday(12-6-08). My dad didn't say if anyone placed there bid. So I'm giving the "Needville Blue Jays" birdhouse to my teacher at Needville ISD Mrs.Carew for Christmas. The "Guy" birdhouse will start selling to a worthy customer for $80.00. We'll lower the price a bit but, we'll only lower it down to $45.00 tops. I have great news, my Aunt Christy suggested that I should be moved up in rank from Helper to Partner! My dad has agreed to sign a Deed to do that. Now I'm making new bird houses that might be for sale, but they'll be rare and might only on the website.

Grandpa's Bird House

When We were painting houses last week James asked if he could paint one for himself. He wanted an "apartment" one. He then went and picked out plates for it. He painted it completely inside and out. He said he did not want the birds to get splinters from the wood and that this house was "special" so it had "upgrades" that isn't included in regular houses.

He completed the house and installed the plates himself. He did have some help from mom when it came to installing the chain.

He was very proud of this house and he said it was to honor his grand fathers. He has both an US ARMY plate and an US NAVY plate for the sides and a DON'T MESS WITH TEXAS plate for the roof. The house came out really nice and he is trying to decide where he is going to hang it up at.

I just might have to promote him from "Helper".

Paint Day

Not On the Road Again.......

Due to circumstances beyond our control, Our normal Fall Show Schedule as been cut way back. We enjoy hitting the road and interacting with our customers at Art and Craft Shows, Festivals, and Trade Days events. We will however, have our products available through our website.

Hurricane Ike

Hurricane Ike went to the east of us for land fall. We only sustained mininal damage here at CampGuy. Due to my REAL job, I have been working 12 hours on then 12 hours off. New Motorcycle

I finally got fed up with paying my gas bill and bought a new 2008 Honda Goldwing 1800. I have had the bike for about two weeks now and I really enjoy it.

Now I know why my motorcycle theme products go so fast. Motorcycling is a lifestyle and it does not matter if your a blue collar worker or a white collar suit, If your riding your in a brotherhood. I have rode it in the TEXAS heat and survived.

I now ride it to my "real" job everyday, which is 100 miles round trip. I have really learned a lot from my instructor and coach Sonny Martinez. Sonny had been a motor officer with METRO Police Department and a certified police motorcycle instructor.

All of our wood products are MADE IN TEXAS, GUY TEXAS, That is. We are proud that we make our speciality license plate themed bird houses and feeders by hand in our shop. The pictures of each of the product represents the theme, but due to the fact they are hand made, there maybe little differences in each product.
